Frequently Asked Questions
Families FAQ’s
-
The best way to find a nanny is through a trusted agency that specialises in professional childcare placements. At Gaia Nannies, we personally interview every nanny, carry out rigorous checks, and only introduce candidates who fit your family’s lifestyle and needs. This ensures a safe, smooth and stress-free hiring process.
-
A daily nanny works regular hours in your home but lives elsewhere.
A live-in nanny lives with your family and provides more flexibility, often helping with early mornings or evenings.
A rota nanny works in shifts (for example, two weeks on, two weeks off) as part of a team, which is especially helpful for busy or travelling families.
-
Nanny salaries in London vary depending on experience, qualifications, and the role. On average, families can expect to pay anywhere between £40k - £90k gross for a daily nanny, £40k - 60k per year for a live-in nanny, and 60k++ per week for rota positions. We’ll guide you through typical costs so you know exactly what to budget.
-
In the UK, nannies are almost always employed directly by the family. This means you’ll need to provide an employment contract, pay tax and National Insurance through PAYE, and provide holiday entitlement. We’ll walk you through the process and connect you with trusted payroll providers to make it simple.
-
Every nanny goes through our rigorous process, including enhanced DBS checks, reference verification, paediatric first aid check, and a detailed interview. Many of our nannies are Norland trained, hold equivalent childcare qualifications or have extensive experience, so you can feel confident about their professionalism.
